Starburst at Casinos Not on Gamstop

A casino not on Gamstop holds no UKGC licence, works under a licence from another regulator and is not connected to the Gamstop register. Starburst not on Gamstop keeps the same Wild and re-spin rules as on UK-licensed sites. UKGC protection does not extend to such a casino.

The Starburst stake menu runs from £0.10 to £100 per spin. The UKGC stake cap on online slots has applied since 9 April 2025, and since 21 May 2025 for players aged 18–24. The game's top stake of £100 equals 20 spins at the £5 limit.

Already Self-Excluded with Gamstop

Gamstop is a free national self-exclusion scheme, and every UKGC-licensed online site is connected to it. You chose the term yourself: six months, one year or five years.

If that term is still running, keep to it and open no account at a casino outside the scheme. The urge to look for such a site is the situation the exclusion was set up for.

  • GamCare runs the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free and open 24 hours a day. You talk to an adviser, and more support is at gamcare.org.uk.
  • Gambling block in your banking app: Many UK banking apps can decline card payments to gambling operators once the block is switched on.
  • Closing existing accounts: write to the support team of every casino where you already hold an account and ask them to close it.

Starburst non Gamstop play is for players with no active self-exclusion who keep their spending under control. They look for a higher stake ceiling, a larger bonus or different account terms, and that is a normal reason to compare sites.

Choosing Starburst Casinos Outside Gamstop

Run every check yourself before you register at any of the Starburst casinos that operate outside the scheme.

Check What to look for
Licence Regulator name and licence number in the site footer, confirmed on the regulator's own register
NetEnt lobby Starburst opens from the search bar or the NetEnt filter in real-money mode
GBP account Deposits, stakes and withdrawals in pounds with no conversion step
Stake cap The casino's own maximum bet per spin, stated in its terms
Bonus terms Wagering multiplier, maximum bet while wagering and any cap on bonus winnings, readable before you deposit
Withdrawals Identity documents requested, payout time and weekly limit, all in writing
Account tools Time-out and account closure available in the account settings

If any point stays hidden until after sign-up, such as the licence in the footer or the withdrawal terms, drop that casino from your shortlist.

About Starburst

NetEnt released Starburst on 23 January 2012. The game runs on HTML5 and loads on desktop and mobile. More than a decade on, it remains one of the most played slots at online casinos.

The sequel, Starburst XXXtreme, arrived on 15 July 2021 with high volatility, random Wild multipliers up to x150 and the paid XXXtreme Spins option. That option buys a guaranteed Wild for 10x the bet or two Wilds for 95x.

The third game, Starburst Galaxy (2024), uses cluster pays on a 5×5 grid. The 2012 original has no multipliers and no paid options.

Starburst Theme & Visuals

Starburst sets its reels on a dark purple-blue starfield. A neon STARBURST logo sits above the grid, and arrow markers on both sides of the reels mark the lines. The symbols are five cut gems (Yellow, Green, Orange, Blue and Purple), a golden BAR and a red seven.

The Wild is a multicoloured star with gems set along its rays. When it expands, a rainbow column runs down the reel behind it.

Expanding Starburst Wilds

The Starburst Wild appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 only and substitutes for all paying symbols. Once it lands, it expands to cover all 3 positions of its reel.

Every one of the 10 lines passes through each reel, so an expanded Wild stands on all 10 lines at once. The Wild has no payout of its own.

Starburst Wilds Re-Spins

Any Wild that lands activates the Starburst Wilds feature and awards a re-spin. Expanded Wilds stay locked in place while the other reels spin again. A new Wild during the re-spin also expands, sticks beside the earlier ones and awards one more.

There is room for 3 Wilds, one on each of reels 2, 3 and 4, so a cycle holds no more than 3 re-spins. It ends when a re-spin adds no new Wild, or when all three middle reels are covered and the last re-spin is played.

Two locked Starburst Wilds on reels two and four during a re-spin
Wilds held Reels that re-spin Status
1 4 A new Wild on the two free middle reels awards another re-spin
2 3 A Wild on the last free middle reel awards another re-spin
3 2 (reels 1 and 5) Reels 2, 3 and 4 are fully wild

Three stars lock reels 2, 3 and 4, and only the outer reels move. On each of the 10 lines, the reel 1 symbol then makes at least 4 of a kind.

The reel 5 symbol does the same from the right. Based on the lowest 4-of-a-kind payout, that final re-spin returns at least 10x the bet: £1.00 at £0.10 and £10.00 at £1.

Win Both Ways Paylines

The game uses 10 fixed bet lines. Wins count from the leftmost reel to the right and from the rightmost reel to the left, across adjacent reels with no gaps. The intro screen labels this WIN BOTH WAYS.

Three matching symbols on reels 3, 4 and 5 therefore pay when they run in a row from the right edge. Each line pays only its highest win, and wins on different lines add together. One bet equals 10 coins, one per line at bet level 1.

Starburst Paytable

Payouts are multiples of the total bet for 3, 4 and 5 matching symbols on a line. Every symbol pays in both directions.

Winning line of matching gems highlighted on the Starburst reels
Symbol 5 of a kind 4 of a kind 3 of a kind
Golden BAR symbol 25x 20x 5x
Red lucky seven symbol 12x 6x 2.5x
Yellow Gem symbol 6x 2.5x 1x
Green Gem symbol 5x 2x 0.8x
Orange Gem symbol 4x 1.5x 0.7x
Blue Gem symbol 2.5x 1x 0.5x
Purple Gem symbol 2.5x 1x 0.5x
Starburst Wild multicoloured star symbol Substitutes for all paying symbols, lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, expands to fill the reel and awards a re-spin; no payout of its own

At a £1 total bet, five BARs on a line pay £25.00 and five Sevens pay £12.00. Three Blue Gems or three Purple Gems return £0.50. BAR and Seven are the high-paying symbols, and the five gems are the low-paying ones.

Starburst RTP & Volatility

NetEnt's data gives Starburst a theoretical RTP of 96.08%. That leaves a house edge of 3.92%, or £3.92 from every £100 staked over the long run.

NetEnt releases its classic titles in several RTP versions, and the operator picks which one runs. The lowest Starburst version is 90.05%, which keeps £9.95 of every £100. At a casino outside Gamstop, open the game's info screen and check the RTP before your first bet.

Reviews that give a verbal rating call its volatility low. Hit frequency is 23%, or about 23 winning spins in every 100 on average. The top prize is 800x the bet: £80 at £0.10, £4,000 at £5 and £80,000 at £100.

How to Play Starburst

Step 1

Pick a casino

Choose a casino outside Gamstop that accepts UK players. Complete your own checks on it before you register.

Step 2

Open and verify your account

Register, then complete the identity check the casino asks for. Keep your documents ready to upload.

Step 3

Set a deposit limit, then deposit

Set a deposit limit in your account settings first. Then fund the account with a method from the casino's cashier.

Step 4

Open Starburst

Launch Starburst from the lobby and start a real-money session.

Step 5

Set the stake and spin

Bet level and coin value set your total stake across the 10 lines. Check that total in pounds before you press spin.

Playing Starburst on a Budget

Fix the stake and a £30 budget before the first spin.

Stake per spin Spins from a £30 budget
£0.10 300
£0.50 60
£1.00 30
£5.00 6

Three hundred spins at £0.10 produce about 69 winning spins on average. Six spins at £5 are too short a sample for that average to show, and any higher stake empties the budget even faster. When the budget is gone, the session is over; do not raise the stake to win losses back.

Starburst Demo vs Real Money

The official Starburst demo from NetEnt runs in a browser on play credit. Its Wild, re-spin and Win Both Ways rules match the real-money game. Use it to watch expanded Wilds lock in place and to see how lines count from the right edge.

About NetEnt

NetEnt, a Swedish studio founded in 1996 with its headquarters in Stockholm, has been an Evolution group brand since 1 December 2020. That is why Starburst shows up in lobbies beside Red Tiger and Evolution live games, and why operator pages list the licences under Evolution.
